Sinequan Concentrate

GENERIC NAME(S): Doxepin

Uses

Doxepin, sold under the brand name Sinequan among others. This drug is used to treat mental / mood problems like depression / anxiety. It can help to improve mood and emotions, remove anxiety and stress, helps you sleep better and increases your energy level. Sinequan is related to a class of drugs called tricyclic antidepressants. It works by affecting the balance of some natural chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the brain.

How to use Sinequan Concentrate

Before starting to take Sinequan or Doxepin, read the medication guide given by your pharmacist and every time you get a refill. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.

Take this medicine from mouth, usually 1 to 3 times per day or your doctor’s direction. If you take it only once a day, then take it while sleeping to reduce the sleep of the day. Dosage is based on your medical condition and treatment response.

To reduce your risk of side effects (such as drowsiness, dry mouth, dizziness), your doctor may direct you to start this medication on low dose and gradually increase your dose. Follow your doctor’s instructions carefully.

Before taking Sinequan, tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you are allergic to it; Or other tricyclic antidepressants (such as nortriptyline); Or if you have any other allergens. Sinequan may cause a condition that affects the heart rhythm (QT prolongation). QT prolongation can rarely cause serious (rarely fatal) fast/irregular heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, fainting) that need medical attention right away.

The risk of QT prolongation may be increased if you have certain medical conditions or are taking other drugs that may cause QT prolongation. Before using Sinequan, tell your doctor or pharmacist of all the drugs you take and if you have any of the following conditions: certain heart problems (heart failure, slow heartbeat, QT prolongation in the EKG), family history of certain heart problems (QT prolongation in the EKG, sudden cardiac death).

Low levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood may also increase your risk of QT prolongation. This risk may increase if you use certain drugs (such as diuretics/”water pills”) or if you have conditions such as severe sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting. Talk to your doctor about using Sinequan safely.

This medication can make you feel dizzy or depressed or blurred your vision. Alcohol or marijuana can make you more dizzy or deaf. Unless you can safely do it, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires caution or clear vision. Limit alcoholic beverages. If you are using marijuana, talk to your doctor.

Before surgery, tell your doctor or dentist about all the products that you use (including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs and herbal products).

Sinequan can make you more sensitive to the sun. Keep your time limited in the sun. Avoid Tanning Booths and Sunlamps. Use sunscreen on the outside and wear protective clothing. Tell your doctor immediately if you have sunburned or have blisters / redness on the skin.

If you have diabetes, then this medicine can make it difficult to control your blood glucose level. Regularly monitor your blood glucose levels and tell your doctor about the consequences. Your doctor may need to adjust your diabetes medication, exercise program or diet.

Older adults can be more sensitive to the side effects of this drug, especially dry mouth, dizziness, drowsiness, confusion, difficulty in urinating and QT prolongation (see above).

During pregnancy, this drug should be used only when it is clearly necessary. Since untreated mental / mood problems (such as depression, anxiety) can be a serious condition, do not stop using this medicine unless directed by your doctor. Interactions

Taking the MAO inhibitor with this drug can be a cause of serious (potentially fatal) drug interactions. During treatment with this drug, avoid taking the MAO inhibitor (isocarboxazidlinezolid, methylene blue,  moclobemide,  phenelzine,  procarbazine,  rasagiline,  safinamideselegilinetranylcypromine). Most MAO inhibitors should not be taken for two weeks before and after treatment with this drug. Ask your doctor when to start or stop this medication.

Other medications can affect the removal of Sinequan from your body, thereby affecting how Sinequan works. These drugs include cimetidine, St. John’s Wort, terbinafine, drugs to treat irregular heart rate (such as quinidine/propafenone/flecainide), antidepressants (such as SSRIs including paroxetine/fluoxetine/fluvoxamine). This is not a complete list.

Many drugs besides Sinequan may affect the heart rhythm (QT prolongation in the EKG), including amiodarone, cisapride, dofetilide, pimozide, procainamide, quinidine, sotalol, macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin), among others. Therefore, before using Sinequan, report all medications you are currently using to your doctor or pharmacist.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking other products that cause drowsiness such as opioid pain or cough relievers (such as codeine, hydrocodone), alcohol, marijuana, other drugs for sleep or anxiety (such as alprazolam, lorazepam, zolpidem), muscle relaxants (such as carisoprodol, cyclobenzaprine), or antihistamines (such as cetirizine, diphenhydramine).

Check the label on all your drugs (like allergy or cough-and-cold products) because they may include decongestants or elements that cause drowsiness. Ask your pharmacist about using those products safely.

Over Dose

Missed Dose
