GENERIC NAME(S): Haloperidol Lactate, Haloperidol

Uses

Haloperidol, marketed under the trade name Haldol among others. Haldol is used to treat certain mental / mood disorders (e.g.,  schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorders). This medicine helps you to think more clearly, feel less nervous and participate in everyday life. It can help prevent people from committing suicide, who are likely to harm themselves. It also reduces aggression and the desire to hurt others. It can reduce negative thoughts and hallucinations.

Haldol can also be used to treat the outbreak of uncontrolled movements and words / sounds related to Tourette’s disorder. Haldol is also used for severe behavior problems in hyperactive children when other treatments or medicines have not worked.

Haldol is a psychiatric therapy that works by helping to restore the balance of some natural substances (neurotransmitters) in the brain.

How to use Haldol

Take Haldol or Haloperidol according to your mouth or with no food, or as directed by your doctor. If you are using the liquid form of medicine, then use the measurement draper in the package to measure your dose. If you do not have a dropper, ask your pharmacist for a measured oral syringe so that your dose is correct.

Dosage is based on your medical condition and medical reaction. Use this drug regularly so that it can get the most benefit. To help you remember, use each day at the same time.

Do not stop taking this medicine without consultation with your doctor. When the drug suddenly stops, some conditions may get worse. Your dosage may need to be gradually reduced.

Inform your doctor if your symptoms are not good or if they get worse.

Side Effects

Dizziness, laziness, drowsiness, difficulty in urinating, sleep disturbances, headaches and anxiety may be there. If these effects persist or become worse, then inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.

For men, this can be due to lack of sexual capacity, inability to produce sperm, or increased breasts. If you develop any of these symptoms, then tell your doctor immediately.

For men, in an unlikely event, you have a painful or prolonged construction (lasting longer than 4 hours), stop using this medicine and seek immediate medical attention, or may have permanent problems.

Haldol can rarely cause the condition known as tardive dyskinesia. In some cases, this situation can be permanent. Tell your doctor immediately if you develop any face / muscles such as the emphasis on the tongue, the chewing activities, the bruising or biting of your mouth, or the uncontrollable movements.

This drug can rarely be the cause of a very serious condition called  neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS). If you have any of the following symptoms, seek medical help: fever, muscle stiffness / pain / tenderness / weakness, severe fatigue, severe confusion, sweating, sharp / irregular heartbeat, deep urine, signs of kidney problems ( Such as change) amounts of urine).

Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects are: continuous nausea / vomiting, stomach / abdominal pain, eyes / skin yellowing, seizures, symptoms of infection (such as fever, constant sore throat) .

If any of these are rare but very serious side effects, then seek immediate medical attention: slow heartbeat, severe dizziness, chest pain, unconsciousness

There is no possibility of serious allergies for this drug, but if this happens, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of allergic reaction include: rashes, itching / swelling (especially the face / tongue / throat), severe dizziness, shortness of breath.

Precautions

Before taking Haldol or Haloperidol, tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you are allergic to it; Or if you have any other allergens. This product can have passive elements, which can cause allergic or other problems. Talk to your pharmacist for more details.

If you have some medical condition then this drug should not be used. Before using this drug, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have: a definite severe neural system problem (severe CNS depression), Parkinson’s disease.

Before using Haldol, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially: bipolar disorder, difficulty in urinating (e.g., due to prostate problems), glaucoma, heart problems (e.g., angina), Overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism), seizures, low white blood cell count.

Haldol can cause a condition that affects the rhythm of the heart (QT prolonged). Prolonged Qt can rarely cause serious (rarely fatal) fast / irregular heartbeat and other symptoms (such as severe dizziness, unconsciousness) that require immediate medical attention.

If you have some medical conditions or Qt may be causing prolonged other medications, the QT can increase the risk of prolonging. Before using Haldol, tell your doctor or the pharmacist of all medicines you take, and if you have any of the following conditions: Fixed heart problems (heart failure, slow heart beat, QT in EKG) Prolonged), family history of some heart problems (Qt) longevity in EKG, sudden cardiac death).

Lower levels of potassium or magnesium in the blood can also increase the risk of QT being long. If you use certain medications (such as diuretic / “water tablets”) or if you have a condition like severe sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting, then this risk may increase. Talk to your doctor about using Haldol safely.

This drug may make you dizzy or drowsy. Alcohol or marijuana can make you more dizzy or deaf. Unless you can safely do it, do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that requires caution. Limit alcoholic beverages. If you are using marijuana, talk to your doctor.

Before surgery, be sure to tell your doctor or dentist that you are taking Haldol.

This medicine can reduce sweating, which is more likely to cause you heatstroke. Avoid hard work and exercise in hot weather.

Older adults may be more susceptible to the side effects of this drug, especially the cardiovascular effects such as drowsiness, dizziness, lukewarmness, difficulty in urinating, and QT prolongation (see above). The risk of drowsiness, dizziness, and lighthouse can increase.

During pregnancy, this drug should be used only when it is clearly necessary. The mothers who have used this medicine during the last 3 months of pregnancy rarely develop symptoms including muscle stiffness or stiffness, drowsiness, feeding / difficulty breathing, or constant crying. Interactions

Drug interactions can change how your medicines work or increase your risk for serious side effects. This document does not contain all possible drug interactions. In addition to haloperidol, many medicines can affect cardiac rhythm QT prolongation), including amiodarone,  dofetilide,  pimozide,  quinidine,  sotalol, procainamide, macrolide antibiotics (such as erythromycin), among others. Therefore, before using haloperidol, report all the medicines you are currently using for your doctor or pharmacist.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist whether you are taking other products, due to opiate pain or cough relief (such as codeine, hydrocodone), alcohol, marijuana, sleep or anxiety medications (such as alprazolam,   lorazepam,  zolpidem), muscle relaxants  (such as  carisoprodol,  cyclobenzaprine), or antihistamines (such as cetirizinediphenhydramine).

Check the label on all your drugs (such as allergy or cough-and-cold products), because they may contain ingredients that cause drowsiness. Ask your pharmacist about using those products safely.

Over Dose

If someone is treated and has serious symptoms like having trouble going out or breathing, call 911. Otherwise, call the Poison Control Center immediately, residents of the US can call their local venom control center at 1-800-222-1222. Canadians can call a provincial poison control center.

Do not share this medication with others.

Missed Dose

If you miss a dose, then as soon as you remember, take it. If it is near the next dose time, then leave the thesis supplement and start your normal dose program again. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Storage
