What is Arcoxia?

Etoricoxib, sold under the trade name Arcoxia among others. Unbranded etoricoxib tablets are also available. The arcoxia tablet contains etoricoxib, an anti-inflammatory drug prescribed to reduce inflammation (swelling) and relieve pain in arthritic conditions such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.

It is also set to relieve short-term pain after gout attacks and dental surgery.

How does Arcoxia work?

Arcoxia is a type of drug called non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by blocking the action of an enzyme in the body called cyclo-oxygenase (COX).

COX is involved in making substances in the body known as prostaglandins, in response to injury and in conditions like arthritis. Prostaglandins cause pain, swelling and swelling. Arcoxia reduces inflammation and pain by reducing the production of these prostaglandins.
